Recently single and confused

Al

This might be a long read, but i could really use some insights and advice.

So I recently became single after a really long term relationship. And in all honesty, he’s a wonderful person, and we’re still going to work on being friends, but romantically we’re just not very compatible.

I have a high sex drive. He did not. He didn’t really like physical intimacy anyway, let alone things that I had more of a thing for and asked to try. Which is fine. We tried working on that for awhile, like a couple of years. But things didn’t really improve, and we started to drift I to a platonic, friendly relationship. But we wanted to keep trying to work on things.

Then about a month ago he told me that he wanted to transition to be a woman. And I was a little surprised, but it made a lot of sense. Like you could just tell how happy the idea it made him and how it would be who he actually is. But it started to change our relationship dynamic even more.

He didn’t really want kids anymore... and marriage conversations were really quite different than how they had been before. And we just acted more and more like friends. And we tried kissing and I just didn’t feel a spark. And we tried and talked and gave it more time, but ultimately we decided to break up and just pursue friendship since that seemed to meet a lot more of our needs and hurt a lot less than what we had been doing.

But now what do I do? My whole idea of the future was about us as a couple... but now I have all this “freedom” and I don’t know what to do with it. I haven’t been single in years, and I recently graduated from college earlier this year... I have no idea how to figure out my next steps or who I am outside of this relationship. I don’t know how to meet people or read signals or what the dating world is like now...

If you have questions, or if I can explain anything better, I would just love some advice and insights. I can’t share this with a lot of friends and family right now because he hasn’t come out as trans yet to many people, so I really appreciate whatever you wonderful ladies can offer.

Thanks 🖤
