Toddler bed or twin?

Question

I have a 2 year old that will need a new bed since his baby brother will need the crib in the spring. Should I do a fun, Mickey toddler bed, so he’s excited about it? I actually already have a second crib/toddler mattress. Or should i jump straight to a twin and get fun bedding and put bed rails on it? I’m torn. 
We were thinking about this being part of his xmas present. A brand new, big boy bed room.
Edit: Thanks, ladies. The toddler beds are so darn cute! Lol. But I agree it makes more sense to just go straight to the big bed. I think I’m having a hard time comprehending my baby isn’t going to be a baby much longer. 😩

Once my boy is done with the toddler bed, he will be going straight to a double bed. A friend of mine did this and said it was the best thing ever. Kid doesn’t end up in your bed all the time, but you can have room to be in their room if you want/need to

Twin bed, toddler bed wont last long. I also found that toddler bed bumpers were easier than bed rails. My son never has fallen out of the bed and it makes changing the sheets so much easier.

Definitely get a twin so you don’t have to spend more than you need to. My daughter loves her big girl twin bed.

Skip the toddler bed and straight to a normal size one..

We got our 2 year old a full size platform bed from pottery barn kids. We gave the crib to our newborn. We only spent $120 on crib (thx Amazon), so we didnt mind spending more money on the pbk bed he’ll use til college.

We went from crib to toddler bed then to twin and honestly.. I would suggest skipping the toddler bed. They don’t use it very long and it’s too small if they roll around in their sleep at all.

My husband and I have been talking about switching our twins to beds soon and personally we think, we are going to have to buy a twin bed eventually so why not do it when we switch them from cribs instead of buying Toddler beds then having to buy another bed in a couple of years.

Definitely get the bigger bed and fun bedding. At least he'd be able to use it for a while and it would age well. You can always change the bedding but not the bed frame! I dont think he'd want a Mickey mouse bed at like 8, for example.
