Are we really ready?

Hey everyone. So my boyfriend and I have been talking about marriage for the past year and a half and we’ve both mentioned that we were ready. He wants to ask my parents for their blessing first and I know he’s been asking my best friend about my ring size and stuff like that lol. But this time as we’re talking about it, he says he knows he can rely on me but he’s not sure if he can rely on me financially. It really hurt my feelings because he knows that I’m actively trying to find a job while also knowing that I’m going back to school after taking a year break. Does him not being able to rely on me completely mean that we’re not ready to at least be engaged or am I overreacting?
