Is it worth it to buy a Doppler to hear the babies heartbeat between doctor visits?

Doctors and midwives don’t actually recommend you do this because your not trained to pick up the baby’s heart beat or trained to know if something wrong with it you sometimes pick up your heartbeat or the placenta by accident. They also say don’t bother using them just because you’ve heard baby’s heartbeat doesn’t mean there’s nothing wrong. Waste of money. ❤️

I used one for a couple weeks because I’ve have miscarriages in the past and a good friend gave it to me to help ease my worries. However, it can be tricky to find the heartbeat which can lead to more anxiety. When I could find the heartbeat it was a relief, but once I could feel the baby move, I stopped using it because movement is a better indication of health than the heartbeat. Sometimes moms will worry because they don’t feel baby move and use the Doppler to get reassurance, but it can be false reassurance because baby movement stopping would come before no heartbeat so it’s a better indication if baby is ok. So if you do want to get one, just realize it may cause more anxiety and once you can feel baby move, that’s a better thing to go off of.

I’m almost 16 weeks and can’t find the heartbeat. So so far waste of money.

My friend loaned me theirs. I used it a few times, simply because it makes me happy. I’ve also used it so my mom or other family can hear it.  But I wouldn’t have wasted money on it. My son is kicking up a storm now at 22 weeks, and its really not necessary to use it anymore. 
The apps are nonsense. Don’t bother with those.

It has helped me. I have an anterior placenta so it took a long time for me to feel regular movement. Having a Doppler helped me relax and not let my anxiety steamroll. I haven’t used it for about a week or two now that baby is moving heaps.
