How soon after loosing your cat (or pet) would you wait to get a new one?

I think I would have to wait and see. Some people find that getting a new one right away helps with the grief and others feel like they can’t ever get another. I’m not sure where I would fall.

When I was a kid my dad enforced a strict 90 day grieving period lol. It kinda gave us something to look forward to after the loss of a pet and it gave us time to process our emotions over the loss instead of jumping right in and filling the void.

When my dog passed we got a puppy about 2 months later. My cat was severely depressed and the house felt wrong without a dog in it. But previous to this we usually waited a year or so before finally bringing a new one home. I don’t think there’s a specific time frame each case is different.

It's really up to you, but I've never gotten a new pet immediately, or even weeks after one has passed.

My cat passed away in 2018. His littermate got really depressed and was attacking us. So we got another kitten, following the vets advice, I was NOT ready to love another cat. Turns out Penny hated him anyway, we rehomed him 3 months later. We got a new vet and explained the situation to her. She said that Penny sounds like she bonds with one cat and her bonded male past, she just needed a bit to get used to it. She is fine now. Husband and I talked and we still aren't ready for a new cat.. We will see maybe when Penny gets older that way our kids have something to comfort them when it's Penny's time.

I dont think there a specific time. I waited about 6 months. Visiting a cat shelter made my decision for me. There a alot of animals looking for a good home, if you miss having a dog, get one. Youre relationship with a new pet doesnt diminish the memory of your past pet.

Our dog passed in August and we’re getting a puppy at the end of December(have to wait until he’s 8 weeks). We weren’t going to get one but we’ve realized how lonely our other dog is by herself so we want to get her a friend!

I feel like if you get a new pet straight away it’s kind of like you’re just replacing the last pet and give them no value. 
That’s just how I see it, obviously it depends on how long you’ve had the pet and how close you were to it etc.

It was about two years or so before I got another cat. Partially because I had to convince my husband haha
