Leaving an abusive relationship

Me and my ex fiancé have agreed to go our separate ways. I’m a stay at home mom while he works, meaning when he leaves I’ll have to get a job and support myself and my daughter with the help of child support. He is and alcoholic and takes drugs like cocaine, and aderal while working as a teacher, and is very abusive to me. I have bruises everywhere and videos and pictures of everything he has done to me. He said if I go live at a shelter his mother with file for custody. Can my daughter be taken away from me when all I’m trying to do is go somewhere safe for us while I get on my feet?
