Drs appointment confusion !!!!

Hi guys so I went in for my appointment last week at 36 weeks and everything went good baby girl has dropped and it flipped so any day now lol but I had my dr tell me that my next check up appointment won’t be till I’m 38 weeks so I’m wondering if that’s normal to not be getting check ups every week or I’m assuming since I’m ok she isn’t worried it’s just I’m confused because all of my friends say “you should go every week to be more monitored !” So this is why I’m asking any one if it’s normal I am a first time mommy so all the info is very appreciated guys !! Thank you tons !
