Everyone is different. I always say at least a year to see how eachother celebrate holidays, family dynamics and you’ve seen them on good days and bad days, and have had a disagreement you resolved together and have gone on vacation together at least once. These are a few things to gauge how you know the person. 
Do you live together? Have you discussed finances? Long term goals?

My husband and I moved in together 2 weeks after dating married after a year together we have been together 5 years married for 4 in February and have a 2 year old together I wouldnt have it any other way we knew we wanted a life together and it felt right.

It works for some people, but not for others. As long as your communication is open and you have discussed and agree on important things (money, kids, basic household stuff, religion), then it can definitely work. I also suggest premarital counseling for anyone! We were together almost 2 years before getting married, and it still helped us and brought up things I would have never thought about otherwise.
