Road trip at 35 weeks with a toddler?

So my BIL destination wedding is when I am 35 weeks along and its a 16 hour drive normally. I asked my MW and she said that I have to stop every hour and walk 10-15 minutes to reduce the risk of clotting (I have very very severe varicose veins that need to be removed, we are hoping to wait until after birth to do so). My son will be 1 year and 3 months for this trip and absolutely hates the car. So we would have to leave a day before everyone else and stop and get a hotel to allow my son to burn off some steam. We are now thinking that my son and I should stay home and my Husband go alone. I'm super paranoid about him being so far away that late in pregnancy but I know its important for him to be at his brother wedding. If anyone has traveled this long, this late in pregnancy please add your input and advice thank you!
