And so it begins...

I am currently pregnant with my first baby, so I guess it counts here.

I have dubbed my daughter “the lil ballerina” because the first time I felt her move like crazy (I had felt her move before but this was constant), I was watching the nutcracker ballet. And now she moves like crazy when I play music. The pet name makes sense, right?

My husband and I had actually discussed what we would do if she really wanted to do ballet, or figure skating, or whatever extra curricular activities she might eventually be interested. You know, like normal first time parents do. This HAS to be normal, right?

Well, my parents seem to think we are going to push our kid to do any or all of those things. They even told me to let her come to me to let me know if she wants to do any of those things. Which I had already mentioned to them that is what we plan to do as well as ASK HER IF SHE WOULD BE INTERESTED. As soon as I said we will also ASK her. They almost panicked like it’s one of the biggest no-no’s in parenting.

My problem is. MY PARENTS NEVER ASKED ME IF I WAS EVER INTERESTED IN TRYING ANYTHING. Heck, I didn’t know I could do gymnastics when I was little, I didn’t know what gymnastics was, until I saw it on tv and wanted to try it. But I was 7 and parents said I had to be 3 to start.

???????

So of course I’m going to ask my child if she wants to try certain things when she’s little.

So, it has begun. The unsolicited advice on how to raise my kids...
