Would you be upset?!?!
So to summarize this quickly, I have an aunt who is only about 10 years older than I am. I am turning 23 at the end of this month. My grandfather had some flings later on his life and... whoops! Anyway... we will call my aunt, A.
When I had my first child, I was only 19, A got pregnant about 5-6 months after I gave birth to my son. A was adopted at birth but we have always stayed in touch with her, but her life growing up was not great. Her parents were always short on money and didn’t treat A and her two other adopted sisters very nicely.
Before A got pregnant she had a 10 year old daughter, a 6 year old adopted son and her new husband had an 11 year old son.
They were short on money and I started giving her a lot of things that my son outgrew, toys, walkers, bottles, etc. anything I could do to help her out. I also let her use my breast pump. Her insurance would not cover one and I actually went out and bought a $300 one when I was pregnant, because I knew I wanted a nice one to last me if I ever decided to have more down the road. At the time, I knew my boyfriend and I were not planning on having anymore, anytime soon. So I gladly let her borrow mine to get her through.
Fast forward, I am now due with my second baby in May. I contacted A to see if she still had my breast pump. She replied with “You GAVE me that over a year and a half ago... I had no use for it. So I sold it...” I thought i had made it clear that my breast pump was the only thing I really wanted back since I had paid so much for it. She says since I “GAVE” it to her, I had no right telling her what she could and couldn’t do with it.
I am really upset that I now have to go out and spend more money on another one, is it my fault for letting her use it to begin with? In a way, i feel it is. But in the other hand, it clearly was not a cheap pump and I feel as though she should’ve asked if I wanted it back if anything was unclear in the beginning.
**EDIT: I had told her I did not want or need any of the clothes, toys, bottles, etc back. But I would like my pump back when she was done.
