How do I write diversity in my books?

Jessica

I'm aware this isn't the book talk board, I wanted to reach as many of you wonderful people to aid me.

I am asking you this question, to help me.

How would you want yourself to be written in a book?

Here's some background.

I am a highschooler who is in the process of writing seven (post apocalyptic) books that take place in each of the seven continents. I'm also a white girl who lives in a very small town in the U.S. that is about 95% white as well. Nearly everyone who lives here has the same background or Germanic, English, or Irish. I haven't been exposed to much diversity other than online so I don't know how to properly represent others. (Note, my books will not be about overcoming the problems associated with being part of a minority. I'm not the person to tell those stories, and that is simply not what my series is about).

So, with that out of the way, I am asking the people those of you who want to be represented to please tell me how I should do that. I don't want to write clicheus or stereotypes as my descriptions, so I decided to ask the people who would know best.

How would you write a description of yourself in a story?

Thank you for your time, and pardon me if you see this on other boards or if I said something wrong.
