My partner just said ‘I did have better sex with previous partners!’ 😔 💔

My partner and I were having a chat. I think communication is one of the most important things in a long term relationship so every now and then I will check in with my partner about certain things. Tonight we talked about sex because I’m 26 weeks pregnant and we’ve been in a bit of a rut. We’ve gone down to 4-5 times a week rather than daily and the quality is just a bit meh.

Me - ‘How do you think our sex life is going?’

Him - ‘It could be better.’

Me - ‘I agree. What things do you think we could do to improve?’

Him - ‘Well I did have better sex with previous partners but I’m not complaining!’

Me - 😧😣💔 ‘I really wasn’t expecting you to say that!!’ 😢😭😭

Him - ‘I didn’t mean that in a bad way!’

Me - ‘Oh so it was meant to be a compliment that you prefer sex with your ex-girlfriends over me!’

I burst into tears because I wasn’t expecting him to say something like that at all. It made me so insecure and heartbroken. I couldn’t talk to him about it anymore. I had a shower and got ready for bed. He came in and talked to me.

He said he was sorry and he didn’t mean for it to come out the way it did. I honestly couldn’t talk for a while, I just sat there and cried while he apologised and tried to make it better.

We ended having a really big chat about how it’s so important for him to actually tell me what he likes just as I try to communicate with him about what I like. He said it’s been hurtful for him lately when I’ve told him I’m not going to come despite his efforts to please me. I explained to him that sex isn’t the same for me now that I’m pregnant and I do enjoy it but it’s harder for me to do certain positions and it’s WAY harder for me to have an orgasm.

Anyway, I cried a lot more, he apologised a lot more and reassured me that he doesn’t want to have sex with anyone else. It was just a stupid thoughtless comment. We both agreed we would put in more effort to please each other and be a little more adventurous.

I’m still upset by his comment to be honest because no one wants to be compared to previous partners. But I feel like we’ve had a really good chat about it all. We’re on the mend.
