Is Elias going to be shortened?

My Sons name is Lucien (pronounced Loo-shun) his little brother is arriving in April and the only name we can agree on is Elias (pronounced el-eye-yus) but I’m wondering whether its going to be shortened to Eli, which I don’t really like. 
My husband doesn’t mind Eli and says he won’t be able to help himself shorten it. 
We’re really stuck for other names we agree on!

My cousin is named Elias and everybody calls him Lias as a nickname, which is super cute! They aren't fans of Eli either but nobody calls him that

I named my son Gabriel. I hated the nickname “Gabe”. I didn’t want other people calling him that nor was I gonna call him that. Of course it’s just natural and rolls off the tongue so people were constantly calling him that (even before he was born) I ended up getting used to it & call him Gabe. Only call him Gabriel when he’s in trouble. 😂

You can tell people it’s Elias not Eli but as he grows older and goes to school kids very well may shorten the name, or maybe he will want to shorten it.

Not necessarily. I had a student named Elias. Never call him Eli because it’s not what he chose to go by.
