Induction due to SO job. Yes or No?

Question

My husband has a job where his office is 1 1/2 hours away from me, but his job sites can be up to 3 hours and that is not including traffic time (traffic is awful to and from where his job takes him). If your SO worked this distance away, would you want to schedule and induction so you know he’ll be there for the birth, or would you take your chances, go into labor, and hope he makes it on time? I know labor can last 5 minutes or last hours upon hours. So what would you do?

I would not want a scheduled induction. I’d just hope for the best.

I’d avoid induction at all costs... it’s so much more painful and takes longer. There are the few that have super quick labors but for the most part, I really doubt you’ll start contractions and have the baby within a few hours. I’d hope for the best and think it will work out for you ❤️

Inductions can be very long, very painful, and can result in many complications. My induction took 36 hours and was very traumatic. I would never agree to another induction unless absolutely medically required (my first one was for medical issues). I went over by 11 days with my second but was able to have a spontaneous labor and it was completely different from the induction! 
Most first time labors are longer than a few hours so your husband should have plenty of time to get there. And even worse case scenario- if he misses it it’s better to have a natural labor with less chances of complications. If you’re worried then make sure you have a support person that will be with you during the labor. I had a doula for my 2nd child and it really made a huge difference and only cost me $250. My husband was there too but my doula knew exactly what I needed to do and hear and was a great advocate of my birth plan and wishes.

Absolutely not. His job is not a medical reason. Baby needs to stay in until ready to come out. They are still developing and kicking a baby out to fit someone’s schedule, is in my opinion, ridiculous

I’d just pray for the best and let nature take its course. Sometimes induction can be really stressful on the body and it’s not worth it if it’s not medically necessary

I would schedule something. My husband was the same and barely made it last time. I was in labor for 3 hours. 1cm to 10 in 3 hours. First time mom too. For this pregnancy I’m definitely scheduling something but that’s just my preference.

Is it possible for him to schedule his work appointments around so he isn't traveling 3hrs away? It seems easier to tweak his schedule than to have an induction. Its definitely your choice and something to consult your doctor about.

Is there anyway his work could start putting him on closer jobs for the time leading up to your due date?

Definitely schedule an induction 
Having faith and hoping he’d be there is stupid cause it’s a one time thing for you to experience together and you’ll need his support 
Stressing he is not there when your pushing is not good 
Since I was 32w my husband has been closer in job wise cause he’d be anywhere from 30 minutes to 3.5hrs away and we are not trying to have him miss the delivery 
Many couples do it this way and it’s something my dr has always asked
