What is this??

My son is 11 days old and has some latching issues. Sometimes he latches perfect, other times I’m shaking from the pain lol. I’ve only noticed this happening on my left boob when his latch isn’t that great....the red part is raised. I’ve already had to introduce bottles and some formula but I really want breastfeeding to work....I didn’t get to with my first. We’ve already seen a LC and I left the office pretty much in tears. She literally sent me home with this little cup thing for my baby to “lap the milk out of” like a cat! She said a bottle is the last resort and “at least it isn’t formula”. Any tips?
