What you wish someone would’ve told you while going through a custody battle?

Please send some encouragement..in the beginnings of it with my 3 month olds dad. It’s hard to see the light at the end but trying to stay focused and positive as best I can..no one I really know has gone through it to this degree so I’m seeking encouragement and maybe advice

I don’t know from a moms perspective but from a general custody (I’m a step mom) point of view, get a good lawyer. Don’t cheap out and never try and represent yourself. Maybe it’s different for women but for men, you will not get anywhere and you will not have a fair chance at equal rights to your child/ren.

Focus on facts and not emotions (coming from someone who has gone through a long custody battle and also worked in family law for 10 years).  Don’t play he said she said, either have proof or don’t bring it up.  Keep a journal of visits, dates, times, and whether or not the exchange was successful.
