Newborn routine..?

My babe is 3 weeks old - am wondering if I should be starting some kind of routine? Or is it too early?

It's definitely early for a strict routine, since your baby will just change the time of feedings and sleeps pretty often. However, you can always do things like, reading a book when going to bed, whatever time it is. And do not stress about it. Do not stress about how often your baby eats, sleeps through the night and such things. My nearly one year old does wake 1-3 times a night to get a bottle of milk or water. And it's normal.

I started a routine at 1 week old. We dont always stick to it, its more of general guidelines. But now at 6 weeks old he sleeps 6-8 hours from about 9pm, wakes up to eat then goes back to sleep for another 3-4. And hes been doing this for 3/4 weeks now, so its been great. Our routine is: 8pm diaper change, lights out, swaddle, then a feed, and then I put him in his bassinet for quiet time. Sometimes he falls asleep on his own by 9pm, othertimes hes wide awake until 9;30/10, so in that case I will give him a little snack and he'll get drowsy and then I'll put him down to sleep. He always goes to sleep the 2nd time, if not the 1st. 😊 And I make sure that he is awake for a while in the evening before attempting this. My baby likes to be awake for 3ish hours, and feeding twice. So he stops his daytime naps around 5/6ish, eats and plays for a while before bed. We've been doing this with him for weeks now, and its really good for the whole family I think. 😊

Routines are good as long as you arent strict or force them. take your newborn’s lead- i think its way easier.

We started nighttime routine when LO was 2 weeks just for our own sanity. Turns out it worked great for us. Now at 10 weeks he goes down really easy and understands bedtime steps. That said, all bets are off for daytime. Routine is a joke for us!
