Missed period, Birth Control

So I’m 6 days late for my period but I started birth control recently. Does that usually happen to girls? I’ve also taken a pregnancy test and it was negative so it has to be the birth control stopping it right? Also if I miss my period am I supposed to be spotting? Because I have not spotted yet😬
