Boyfriend is spending a lot on me for Christmas.. I’m broke

I’ve asked him not to get me anything or don’t get me anything expensive. I’ve been out of work because I sprained my ankle. He understands and says it ok but I’ll feel so shitty.. I’ve asked him what he wants so I won’t but wasteful items he won’t use and he says he doesn’t know other than a pit bull which he knows I wouldn’t buy. I just don’t know what to do. Last month I splurged on his birthday now I have nothing.
