Sleep training a baby that stands...

We have made at least 2 attempts to sleep train but so far no luck. I’ve scoured the internet for no crying sleep training and it seems all methods involve laying baby down and then patting baby until they fall asleep. My problem is that my now 8 month old can pull himself up to standing. When I lay him down drowsy but awake he immediately crawls to the edge of the crib and stands up. He doesn’t know how to go from standing to sitting. We previously attempted the Ferber Method but we have the same issue baby stands up is super tired and crying but doesn’t know how to go from standing to lay back down. Any tips on how to sleep train a baby that can stand up? Do I just constantly lay him back down every time he stands up? I have tried this before but it leads to him crying which defeats the whole no crying sleep training.
