He loves me- he loves me not

Hey ladies- this post may make me 1000x more anxious about this but here we go. My boyfriend and I have been friends for a year, talking for about 6 months now and official like 2 months. Before me he was dating a girl for 6 years and they broke up March of 2019. So here’s the deal- New Year’s eve is here and I want to go out but he doesn’t want to because he doesn’t want to “run into some people” from HS. He never said it, but I’m assuming he’s talking about his ex. I’m so so scared that he’s still in love with her and just doesn’t want her to see us together, because that would ruin any chances of them getting back together.

He told me he loves me, and I love him too. And he assures me I have nothing to worry about, but someone please help me either calm THE FUCK DOWN or validate me lol
