Do you feed your baby to sleep?

Question

I currently feed my 13 month old to sleep (for naps and bedtime) and I’m looking for suggestions or ideas on how I can go about getting her to sleep some other way. Not sure where to start!

I lay her in the cot with her toy and dummy and she puts herself to sleep. If she’s struggling I will put her to sleep myself by rocking or laying her next to me.

No and yes. For initial sleep we always make sure to do something between nursing and sleep. Like brushing teeth, final diaper change, pajamas and bed. For naps I just do story, nursing, then up for songs while holding/rocking in that order. 
My kid does wake up at least once a night for milk. It's definitely not comfort nursing because he is awake and swallows like crazy and I'm usually still awake when he does it so I don't have an issue. But he does sometimes fall back to sleep nursing. More often he unlatches then turns over and gets comfy for a minute before falling asleep again. This is an improvement from when he used to nurse to sleep every time he woke up. We chose gentle sleep training so it's much slower to break the habits than other forms. But over time it DOES change.

Precious little sleep is a great and humorous book that is really helpful but pretty much you need to start to break the association between eating and sleep. I started with a new bedtime routine we started to do nurse, bath, pjs and sleep sack and then books (and rocked to sleep to start) after baby gets into the groove I started to put baby down super drowsy but awake. (Yes crying will be involved) I did this at about 10 months old. He CIO for 17 minutes the first night and then like 5 minutes the next time. Consistent bedtime (within a 15-20 minute range is also important). And focus on bedtime first then naps. One step at a time this is a big change for baby but he can do it! And you’ll thank yourself once he’s “sleep trained”

I used to. We just turned the habit into being rocked/sang to. I switched his feedings to be after naps instead of before and it worked for us (this was back when he was bottle-fed).
