Gringa problems

I live in California, I’m Caucasian. My husband is half Hispanic and half Caucasian, but he is pretty dark. I love to cook traditional Mexican cuisine and we often visit our local carnecerias (Mexican meat markets). I do know some Spanish, enough to get by however I feel judged and uncomfortable speaking Spanish in a setting such as the carneceria. I find that I get a lot of dirty looks when I go in and order meat, or if I’m buying masa or anything there really. My question is, do people who work at these establishments have an issue with white women coming into these places? Would it be better if I tried speaking Spanish instead of english? I don’t know what the deal is but I’m always feeling like such a “gringa” when I go in and Unwelcomed. I get noticeable worse service compared to other Hispanics thy shop there and I just want to know why I can do to be more accepted in that environment.
