How can I make my baby’s nails not so damn sharp??

Even if I clip them or file them, they’re always super sharp and she scratches the crap out of herself. Is there something I’m missing??
My sister said bite them off and I tried and felt like I was going to pull her whole nail off. Same thing when I tried to tear them off, like someone else suggested. She’s been wearing mittens for almost 4 months and I don’t want to delay her motor skills by keeping her hands covered all the time.

You could try the electric nail filers.

They get less sharp as they get older. They get thicker, not as razor thin. They still hurt to get scratched with, but they don’t cut skin quite as easily.

Baby nail scissors. These are a LIFE SAVER. So easy to use, and I can cut it pretty short so it isn’t sharp.

My son out grew the mittens and I had to put socks on his hands! We went on vacation when he was 7 months and he was scratching his cheeks where he has eczema and I had to put socks on his hands. It happened. Put some baby aquaphor on that scratch and of will heal up in a day or two.

Just keep them as short as you can. Maybe mittens only at night? That's what we do; his hands are covered at night but that's it.

My LO did the same thing!! We had to wean her off the mittens and she no longer scratches herself and her nails are still pretty sharp. I would only let her have no mittens while I was playing with her or holding her so I could watch. Then I’d just put them on at night or when I couldn’t supervise. I slowly weaned her off and it worked 🤷🏻‍♀️

I've been cutting them every other day lately. Trying to make sure I don't leave any sharp corners. I've only ever put mittens on him when we're going outside. I figured he's going to scratch himself no matter what, just trying to minimize the damage by keeping his nails short. He's 3 months old tomorrow.
