Sex for the first time

After having a baby we tried for litterally 10 minutes to insert his penis I wasn’t dry and was turned on but it just wasn’t working finally managed to get it in has anyone experienced this before? Then when it was in there was abit if pain and just felt tighter than what I remember but it was going good and then the angle changed abit and OMG it hurt so bad I yelped and we stopped anyone experienced this ? Scared to have sex again it did really hurt could it be due to having an episiotomy? Normal? Waited over a year after labour
