Is it unusual to buy my partner a ring

Hello y’all so I want to hear outside opinions! My partner and I have been together going on 8 years and pregnant with baby #4. We have our own home and cars. We live like a married couple and call each other wife and husband, but not married. We are Hispanic and I guess once you live with someone and have a kid you’re married! Anywho back to question so i don’t even know if I want to get married due to its like we are married but not on paper. I guess sometimes I do just because it’s the right thing to do but then I’m like who cares what other people think 🤔. So I want to buy him a weeding ring and surprise him with it and expect him to wear it. I don’t even have a ring myself but I want to get him one to declare my love to him lol super cheesy ! I’m all over the place with this post so I hope I make sense. So would it be weird to get him a ring and have him wear it? I’m nervous he won’t wear it.
