Tongue tie?? ***UPDATE!!***

Question

We go to see a dentist next week to check to see if my (breastfed) son is tongue tied. I'm not 100% convinced that he is or isn't. He doesn't have the looks of it; however, he takes in a lot of air when feeding (gassy all the time), clicks his tongue a lot, slips off, and seems to have a shallow latch. My daughter (2yo) was an expert feeder for 17months... this is a whole new ballgame for me. Anyone deal with same issues? Will add pictures when/if I can get them. 
UPDATE: Got the tongue tie and lip tie fixed and automatically felt a difference in his nursing and his "clicking" has gone away! 🙌 If you are in this situation and feel like it would make a difference, do it! Used a laser to clip them. Very little bleeding initially and LO doesn't seem to be in too much pain, just a little sore. 💙

Yes baby looks tied to me. My first baby was tied and could not latch at all. Definitely see a dentist specialized in ties.

We had lip and tongue tie. Tongue tie clipped by pediatrician at one week. Lip tie lasered by dentist at one month. The two were so severe lactation consultants (at hospital and private in-home) couldn’t help get him latched and by day three I had cracked bleeding nipples that took weeks to heal. It was awful! We fixed them so nursing would still be an option and so they wouldn’t impact his speech etc in the future.

When they assess the tongue and lip for ties there are different levels of how severe they are which will trigger a different plan of action from the doctor.
For example when my daughter was assessed by a private midwife she concluded that my daughter had a 25% anterior tongue tie. 
The more the percentage of grade, the more severe it is.
They will also look to see if the baby can wet their lips, poke their tongue out, touch their tongue to the top of the mouth and the sides. They will ask if baby gags often etc and all of this will determine what action they will take.

My son is "tounge tied" an he's just fine the dentist offered to later cut it when he was 4 but I said no just wait. He's 12 an there's no problems

My boy is 13 weeks and has a lip tie and he did all of those things but was always a good feeder. And now it’s too late to even try to do anything with it.

Looks like a little bit of lip tie. My boy has a small one and does have a bit of a shallow latch. I decided not to have it cut as it was found late at 8 weeks. Most kids year there by age 5 playing or accidentally and never need any surgery.

I just had a consultation for my son. His “lip tie” and tongue tie look exactly like your son’s. My doctor said that it was not a lip tie and that we all have that little skin. As they grow, the gum will grow and that little thing will go up and won’t cause any issues (I took my son in because I was worried about his teeth later on). 
She did confirm that he had a mild tongue tie. She said she would recommend clipping it only if it was causing issues with feeding. My son latches fine. He is gaining weight beautifully. although he is very gassy, I’m expecting it to get better in couple of weeks. I didn’t want to cut it as they don’t use any pain killers and didn’t want to see him suffer lol. I already felt bad for him when he got his shots, can’t image the cut. He is  9 weeks.
