How did you know what you wanted to do for a career? I

I’m 25 and I went to college for almost a year, but moved away and stopped going and I’ve been in retail ever since. I’m so over retail I want to look into something else, but I swear nothing really interests me and it’s scary! I want a career I’m going to love wether it requires school or not! Not to sound cheesy but I’ve always wanted to be a stay at home mom since I was really young. It’s just how I envisioned my life being happily married and a mom waiting for my husband to come home. My boyfriend and I now have no kids, and he pushes me to get back into school because he doesn’t want me to be a stay at home mom. He wants me to be a working mother with a career if we ever decide to have kids together. Am I with the wrong person because we have different futures or should I really start deciding on a career? Help and please don’t be rude.

I think it's fine to want to be a stay at home mom but if your boyfriend is strongly oppose to the idea that's probably going to be an issue you should address before having children with him. For me if my husband had pushed me going to work when I had a little baby it would have been a problem. I've been a stay at home mom and am a part time working mom currently. I plan to work full time in the future as my children will all be school age soon. I don't have a degree but was still able to find a good paying job. If you want to go back to school just get a basic associates degree which you could build on to latter if you find something you are interested in pursuing career wise. Even if you do stay at home when you have kids you may want to work latter on.

I think since you don't have kids yet, it's a good idea to find something you love (& go to school for it or not as needed). You can find a job that's more fulfilling until you have kids & have something to return to after being at home with kids too.
I do think if you strongly value being a SAHM then it needs to be clearly addressed with your SO & if he's firmly against it, maybe it should be a deal-breaker. I'm a SAHM (mostly-- I do a little part-time work) & it's always been important to me, so I would've reassessed my relationship if my SO weren't supportive (especially because I'm really a kids/family-first person & if someone were totally against my being a SAHM just on principle rather than any specific situation, it would've told me they were more interested in maximizing $ than in family, so that wouldn't fit with me).
