When is sex safe again?

I gave birth 4 weeks ago. I stopped bleeding. Is it safe to have sex again or should we wait till after the 6 week checkup?

Yes. Wait. It’s in your discharge paperwork. They tell you like a hundred times in the hospital. And just because nothing happened to someone that you know doesn’t mean it’s safe.

You need to wait until after your check up.
Even though your bleeding has stopped your cervix is still slightly open and the site in your uterus where the placenta was attached has still not healed completely.
This leaves you vulnerable to infection from just basic bacteria that can be present during sex. 
You also may still need additional time to heal from any grazes/stitches as a result of a vaginal birth even in you feel ok.
