Minding your language
A lot of you may have been thaught to always speak with two words.
With that I mean
"Yes, mom"
"No, sir"
"I will get to that as soon as possible, teacher"
As a kid I already thought this was rediciolous, when I got in trouble at school because I wasn't showing respect or whatever my parents had my back.
Mind you I was an angel student, top of my class. I just wasn't about to follow useless rules just because some lady who happened to be my teacher demanded it. There was and is absolutely no logical reason in my mind why a child should be forced to do that.
Personally I do use it a lot when thanking people. But thats it. And even with thanking not all the time.
My boyfriend was raised to always do it till a certain age.
He says its just the respectable thing to do.
But the only reason its respectable is bc people say it is. Unlike holding a door open for someone. Thats respectable because you avoid slamming it in their face.
Besides that why would a kid have to show everyone uttermost respect. Respect starts at a neutral level and if you want to increase that you'd have to show me that you are worth respecting.
So yea. Is speaking with 2 words old rules for old people or still the right thing to force upon your kids.
Bonus questions: were you raised with it and if so did you question why as a child?
Also if you feel like sharing what you voted and your age in the comments that be cool. I do have a feeling that more of the older people on here would think its the right thing while the youngsters think its outdated. I may be wrong though.
