Rant: LET ME BE A FIRST TIME MOM!
TLDR: I'm skeeved out by hand-me-downs, does this make me a bad/uber materialistic person? Am I crazy? Anyone else getting hand-me-down pressure from friends?
The title may be a little deceiving and I don't want to sound ungrateful. I have some mom friends who are on their second kid or their firstborns are now toddlers. I'm a first time mom 30 weeks pregnant and my shower is in a couple weeks. I'm getting messages from my friends offering up used baby stuff like the flower bath pillows, bottles, pacifiers, car seat bases, bassinets, clothes/swaddles, etc. I really really appreciate the offers and some I will gladly take up but the ones like the bath flower, pacifiers, bottles, and even clothes kind of skeeve me out. I KNOW babies are messy and I also trust my friends wouldn't give me gnarly things but I'm still grossed out. I mean they got all the items new when they were first time moms and if it were one my kids to their sibling I would be fine with it but the whole across families thing just weirds me out.
Is it bad of me to want my baby to her her OWN stuff that hasn't been used? I appreciate the help and thought behind it by saving money but at the same time I'm really really kind of uncomfortable with some of the hand-me-down items. Anyone else experiencing it or am I just crazy? I just feel bad when they offer and I like backpedal to thank them but turn it down but I feel pressured to jump in and say yes since they do it with all their friends.
