How we told our families

Karen

Just thought I'd share our story! I was going to share the video, but the file is too large.

So my parents own and run the local Pita Pit. We decided to get the company's help with telling our parents and siblings that we're pregnant.

It started with an email (crafted by me) sent to my dad from the National marketing lead for Pita Pit. It told him they were doing a special Family Day promotion, where ten randomly chosen locations would be given prizes. One of those ten prizes would be a Caribbean trip for up to 10 people (just so happens to perfectly match my family numbers...). If they get a package, they were asked to not open it until they've pulled their family together. They were asked to record the reactions, so footage could be used in a social media advertisement.

For some reason... My dad wouldn't open his emails! He's usually really could about it, so I had to have the regional supervisor guy text him several times, and then finally call him to make sure he saw the email.

So, I created a package, put some fake video release consent forms in it, and two envelopes. I won't go into the details, but my husband and I almost screwed it up and were so sure it wasn't going to work!

So it just so happened that my in laws (who live with us) invited everyone over to our place for dinner the day we had the package delivered. My parents start telling everyone what's going on, and now everyone is SO excited about having such great odds to win the trip! At this point I'm feeling kind of bad... They REALLY want this trip! They're talking about who might take care of each of our three dogs while we're away lol. They're also brainstorming what the other family related prizes might be.

Anyway. My brother gets nominated to open and read the envelopes. He opens the first envelope, and reads out that we didn't win the trip. But that's okay! There's still one more envelope!

He opens the second envelope and yells out "Baby Syal coming August 2020!" With so much excitement that half the people didn't understand what was going on. Eventually everyone catches on, and we all hug and get congratulated.

My brother and youngest sister admitted they were happy for us, but couldn't help but feel a little disappointed that there was no trip lol they had already texted all their friends to brag! My other sister, who's due in a couple weeks, said she already kind of guessed because she was picking up on my symptoms. Parents had no idea, though!

Anyways, if you made it to the end, thanks for reading lol
