Pp period while breastfeeding

I finally had my first pp period a month ago right around the time my son turned one. I'm currently late though I'm still breastfeeding. Just wondering what other breastfeeding momma's cycles are like. Are your periods ever late or skipped? My husband and I had unprotected sex 5/6 days before my period was due thinking we were safe and far enough away from the day I should have ovulated. I'm wondering if I should pick up a pregnancy test or wait a few more weeks and see what happens.... I'm not trying to conceive. I wasn't sure where to post this...
