What to teach 1 year old?

My boy turned 1 year old recently. I play with him all day and he is on track in a lot of ways. He hasn't said a first word yet and is currently walking assisted. His doctor said he's too young to learn letters but all the toys that are 1+ have the alphabet. His attention span can be short with me. My mom (his granny) has better luck sometimes. What are some things I should implement learning wise in his daily schedule? What and how do you teach your 1 year old?

My daughter loves books. We go through them a point out everything, tell her the name and eventually she picked it up. I think she has a wide vocabulary for a 17 month old due to this and Baby Bum on Netflix. She literally talks alllllllllll day long. To us, to herself, to the cat lol

Get him books with pictures and the names underneath. Go through them, point at every picture while saying the name. That's what we did with my daughter. She learnt every page by heart. And was able to associate the same pictures with tv shows and movies if they had anything similar.

1 is definitely not too young for alphbet/colors/shapes if your baby is interested. Obviously don't try to force him to learn it but they can. My son started showing interest in letters right around a year so we started going through them regularly and doing flashcards with pictures and now at 18 months he knows about 20 letters with sounds and most colors and is speaking 3-4 word sentences. At 12 months all he had said was mama so it was a big leap in 6 months. Learning through play and doing is great for kids this age! Let him help you with everything (that's not dangerous of course) and help him achieve the things he's interested in. It's such a fun age, soak it up and enjoy every little milestone!

do you do flash cards? my little one loves them and he isn’t speaking yet (only 6 months) but they do help because he understands some of them. it takes time, reputation, practice, and patience. they have some you can just print and glue onto a big card. reading time, down time, free play, etc. i like to read on the montessori from birth. there’s a lot.

I found that naming items and repeating them over and over to my son helps
ie. When he wants a drink he used to point at his bottle and every time I would say “here’s baba” a few days later he’ll say “baba” when he wants it now instead of pointing  
Repetition and “easier” way to say things always helped with my son. He’s 13 months now and can say probably 10-15 words

I work at a daycare as a preschool teacher for 2 year olds but I do spend a lot of time with the 1 year old class. Reading and singing the alphabet with him will help him recognize the letters even if he’s not saying them yet. Also narrating everything you are doing helps him recognize different actions and objects. Around 1 you can work on motor skills; walking, jumping, dancing, coloring, stacking blocks, popping bubbles. 
At 1 year play is the best way to teach.
