Told my parents about my sexual assault

I was raped a few years ago but didn’t say anything to anyone for more than a year when I told my boyfriend about what had happened. My parents were talking about things today and I was quiet which made my mum ask if I had ever been assaulted, I didn’t say anything at first, which told her that I had been. She brought my dad in and we all cried and I told them what happened. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off as I kept being afraid that they’d think it was my fault or something as I was living away from home in a different country at the time.

I hope that no one else has to go through the trauma of what I went through, but I feel so much better that my family (whom I am very close to) finally know the truth about things.
