Friends with your ex?

Have you stayed friends with an ex? Would you? Or do you move on once the relationship ends? I’d be interested in comments of different opinions and experiences.

Not right after breaking up, but a few years later we started talking a little and now talk a few times a year. Just kind of "hey, how's your family?" Sort of small talk. 
If we had stayed friends right after breaking up I never would have been able to move on.

All of my exes started off as friends and for the most part my breakups were amicable so we would remain friends. we started as friends, it developed into something more, but then over time it just didn’t work out, and if it was amicable, I don’t see why we can’t be friends since we started that way? If it was a nasty breakup then I did not remain friends because usually it ended poorly due to actions, and they were usually actions I wouldn’t want a SO or a friend doing, so I choose to keep them out of my life completely.

I miss my ex of 9 years sometimes, i left him but i did love him, id like nothing more than for us to be friends but there is too much water under the bridge, i do miss him but not in a sexual way, in more of a comfort way.

I usually don't remain friends but my last ex (together for 2 years) I've stayed in contact with because toward the end of our relationship we were really good friends but not really lovers anymore. I've been with my husband for 4 years and we just had our 2nd baby. I was just sitting in the hospital texting my ex and sending him pics of the baby. He is going to come by our house when we get home to see my other son and the new baby. At first my husband was kind of iffy about our friendship (which is totally understandable) but after he met him and saw that we really were just friends he relaxed and encourages our friendship. I have absolutely no romantic or sexual feelings toward my ex but do value him as a friend.

Only one but I don’t really count him as an ex since it was middle school so we never made it official or went on a date. Plus he was murdered last year

I have moved on and not stayed friends. I can’t remake the line of how i was intimate with this person, but now I’m not because they’re just a friend, if that makes sense

I tried to remain friends with my ex of 6 years, but ended up cutting him off after 2-3 months. I just realized how annoying he was when we weren’t dating 😅
