Planning your own shower?

Question

I know asking someone to throw me a shower is rude. Everyone in my family is assuming the other person will do it. Nobody has offered to step up yet. I really want one and I have expressed so. 
Has anyone planned their own shower before?
I am concerned about it looking like "look at me, buy me a gift because I'm pregnant"
I honestly just want the cute decorations and family get together and probably wont put a registry in the invite.

My mom isnt going to let anyone else but her. But I plan on being involved in planning.  And I would like my husband to be included but he is more like whatever I want

I love throwing a baby shower for my friends when they were having their babies. I would totally throw myself one but my friends wouldn’t let that happen. Unfortunately we live two states away from each other now. So they weren’t able to throw me a shower for my last pregnancy. But this pregnancy hoping everything goes well and we can get together. Normally your friends and family throw your baby shower. But you can help plan it too and chip in whatever you can.

I'm gonna be planning my own, with my moms help. Mostly because I'm the oldest in my family, so I don't have sisters to throw me a shower and my husband's sisters are... no thanks. I'd rather plan it myself. I don't think it's a big deal. I wouldn't worry about it looking like you're fishing for gifts, considering a shower is essentially for your friends and family to shower you and your baby with gifts. Exactly what it sounds like. Go for it! That way you know for sure you won't be disappointed with the turn out if someone else plans it for you.

I honestly think it's kind of rude to assume someone else is going to put all that time and money together to plan one for you. I didn't think it was a big deal at all to plan your own until I got on Babycenter forum, and holy shit you would think you're the worst person in the world according to loads of people if you plan your own 🙄
Then again there were lots of people who didn't care either way, like me too. I think it depends on your upbringing/family/friends too. I've never been to a baby shower, and have a super small family. For me, I'd be getting together with 10-15 people tops, and it wouldn't be a super big event. We also don't "need" any thing gift wise, so I don't feel like it's begging for gifts to throw your own. Doesn't really seem different than planning your own wedding, birthday party or similar event.

I am planning my own and we just sent the invites. We roughly pre-rsvp everyone to know which room to book. We are having it at a restaurant and it is coed. I did mention in the invitation that we were paying for the food and included the registry card and a diaper raffle card only because everyone was asking us for it. We just said to join us in celebrating a milestone in our loves. Everyone knows we were TTC for a long time so they are super excited to come.

If you want one and not sure about anyone else doing it. Just do it yourself. How far along are you?
I think I knew for sure about having one thrown for me at 20weeks. I had a few ppl mention it before then. It took us so long for us to get pregnant that ppl were really excited. I almost had 3 thrown for me but had to step in and ask that all 3 friends/mom plan 1 together. I didn't have time or energy for 3 parties. Baby girl came the following week of my babyshower.
