Forward facing?

When are you switching your 1 year old to a convertible car seat? My husband bought one this week because our girl is the proper weight for one now, but it’s forward facing and I thought she wasn’t supposed to be forward facing until 2 years old.

My 2 1/2 year old is still rear facing. They are saying to keep them rear facing longer now. I definitely wouldn’t let my 1 year old front face yet.

We have a graco extend2fit and I’m planning to let my son max that out. Most convertible car seats can rear face up to 40lbs.

Spinal ossification doesn't complete til 5-6 years of age. Let's be honest, that's impossible for some kids, but try to rearface as long as possible! Just because the law (as far as car seats go) says one thing, doesn't make it the best method.

It is recommended to leave them rear facing until they have reached the maximum height/weight for the rear facing car seat or at the very least until age 2. They’re recommending this because of the risk of leg/neck/back injuries in the event of a crash while forward facing. While rear facing those injuries are almost non existent. 🙃

Convertible seats can both rf and ff. If it’s ff only then you likely got a combination seat (ff harness/booster combo.) My son has been RF in a convertible since the day we brought him home from the hospital, and will be until he either maxes out the rf limits on his seat or reaches a minimum of 2 years old (but likely longer as he’s petite)

New law in VA that they have to stay rear facing until 2yrs. My girl will stay longer if she doesn't reach the height limit, she's a tall one

I switched to the convertible car seat a few weeks ago because he outgrew his infant seat. He will hopefully stay rear facing until at least 2 years old.

My 3.5 year old still rear faces with the Graco Extend to Fit and this baby will be rear facing for as long as possible too.
