What do you think about alimony/spousal support?

Do you agree with it? Or do you think it should be done away with?

I think it ultimately depends on the individual situation. If the ex makes enough money to care for him/herself and children then no. If he/she stayed home and has nothing monetarily to show for it besides well adjusted kids then yes, because that was his/her income too.

I agree with it. Too often I see cases of a couple married for decades where she was a sahm and he divorced her. Now a 50 or 60 year old woman is having to (re)join the workforce indefinitely with no retirement saved up.

I think it depends on the situation.  Age plays a big part in it to me as well. My bestfriends mother was married 20 yrs worked with/for her husband thought she at least had a nice retirement fund from those 20 years and nope nothing. She had nothing to show for all her hard work while he owned 2 companies had several cars and owned a house and cottage. She was already in her 50s so yeah she deserved every can't of the alimony and she only wanted what was fair in the first a place to live and all the income and retirement money she never received but earned fairly .
Now do I think a 24 year old getting divorced should get alimony absolutely not at least not unless she has kids and only for a year 2 at most to give her time to get on her feet.

I do not support it. I don't like the idea of legal marriage because I don't think anyone should be entitled to my accomplishments and my assets and my money. My boyfriend and I are getting a prenup before getting legally married to avoid this situation completely.
