1st time dealing with IVF. Any advice?

Jordan

Hello! First post ever on here. I'm starting a new journey with IVF/ICSI.

This is to share my journey hopefully for some hope, and for advice if anyone else has gone through this and can tell me what to expect.

First, a little background. I have 2 kids from my 1st marriage. I missed BC for only a couple days and became pregnant SUPER EASY both times. I left him because of abuse.

And now I've been with an AMAZING man for 2 years, 1 year married in a few days. I'm 29, pretty regular periods, he was 30, now 31, no children. We started TTC in June 2019. He was hoping for sooner but I wanted to married for a few months before trying. I was finally ready and got off my BC without telling him because I was hoping it to be a surprise for him. 3 months in and BFNs each time. The 3rd time he was coming home from work early because he had a feeling about me and called me on his way while I was leaving the store. It was only 5 minutes after I felt my period starting in the middle of the store and I started crying in my car when he called.

2 more months in, he was tracking my cycle with me and we did our best to time BD. Still, BFNs. So we finally decided it was most likely him and he went for a sperm test. Results: VERY LOW count, some are alive, 0% motility. 😭 Can you just say crushed? (We believe it's due to medications he's had to take most of his life for extreme asthma and allergies.)

Thankfully, I wish under different circumstances, I had inherited $15k from my grandmother, because IVF is super expensive. The meds are almost as much as the procedure itself. (Meds between $3k-$7k, and procedure, $10k-$13k)

So, the Dr. recommended another sperm test, with a special stain, to see if they could get some sperm to move, and, it MADE SOME SPERM MOVE!!! So we got a call that they were confident to start moving forward with IVF.

As it turns out, this is a 2-month process. As of friday morning I started BC. I know, it sounds weird that this is the first step, but it is only for one month. In 2 weeks I will start the first medication through injection step of the process.

The calendar showing when everything happens seems simple, but I feel so overwhelmed. We are praying hard the we are pregnant by the end of April.
