Friends judging me for being a SAHM
I’m currently a stay at home mom to a 3 month old and a 17 month old and I feel like my friends totally judge me.
I got laid off of my job 3 weeks after my daughter was born. I started sending my resume and applying immediately after. I went on many interviews, and got job offers, but no one would offer me anywhere near what I was making. My daycare alone for the 2 babies was going to be $2,300 (5 days a week, 10 hours a day) so to me, taking a job bringing home under 3,000 was just not worth it.
So my husband and I decided until we no longer need daycare, I’m going to stay home. We live in a very expensive area, so staying home is not very common here. I clean the house like crazy, I make my husbands lunch, I have dinner on the table when he gets home. My friends are totally judging me. 4 of us are in a group message and they make little comments. I’ll say something like “oh shit it’s 4 pm and I haven’t started dinner yet” and they will be like “tell him to make his own damn dinner” and they are always saying things like “wow I could never live like a 50s house wife, I’d be so depressed if I were you. “
I don’t do “50s house wife things because my husband “makes” me, he is very appreciative of everything I do, and honestly i do these things because I feel VERY guilty about not contributing financially. We lost a second income at a bad time, right after our second child was born. If this is going to be my “job” I want to do it 100%. I feel like the least I can do is make sure my husband has a hot dinner and lunch made after working ten hour days.
The little comments are getting to me. Me losing my job is still very sad for me and I feel like I can’t even talk to these girls anymore without me feeling like I am just some “50s wife”
