Anybody have to have their child tonsils and adenoids out? I could use some advise with your experience and how you prepared and how healing time was.

My 3 year old has sleep apnea and will be getting his tonsils and adenoids removed in a few days.... I’m a worried momma... mostly with the surgery part :/
Any advise is appreciated

I can't answer this in the parents perspective but I got my adenoids and tonsils out as a child. I was 4. I actually remember it very vividly. I remember waiting and playing in a wagon in the waiting room until my name was called. I gave my mom and dad a big hug and kiss and walked bravely in to the operating room. I remember being on the table. They let me pick which flavour  sleep medicine I wanted. Cherry, bubble gum, or banana. I chose banana. I obviously don't remember anything after that until I was coming out of the anesthesia. I had a bit of an adverse reaction so I was flailing and calling for my mom and pushing everyone away. Once I was completely awake though I was fine. I remember feeling like I had a really dry throat like it was sandpaper. But I was happy because I got to watch as much tv as I wanted in recovery and eat as many popsicles and drink as much juice as I wanted lol I actually had a blast. There was an older girl who was 10 that was very upset about it and the nurses asked me to go hang out with her to show her how brave I was because she wouldn't drink or eat the popsicles. I talked her into it and we became friends. Once we went home I got to spend an entire week with my working mother which I loved. We had a lot of us time. I honestly don't remember it as a bad experience at all.

I had my tonsils and adenoids taken out at 13. As far as the surgery goes - I only really remember waking up, really bright lights and coughing up blood. My throat was sore for a couple weeks. I remember being pissed bc I was told I could eat all the popsicles and ice cream I wanted but it hurt too bad to swallow anything. I lost some weight from not being able to eat much. Overall I’m glad I did it though. I had the absolute worst seasonal allergies as a child, also allergic to dust and animal dander. My eyes would be so itchy all the time and glue shut at night. Id repeatedly get tonsillitis and strep. After getting my tonsils and adenoids removed, my allergies chilled way tf out.

I had mine removed as a child. An it was not a bad experience from what I remember. I too played in the waiting room, they called me back. Got to choose the flavor of my medicine, the anesthesiologist counted down backwards with me until I was out. When I came to the anesthesiologist was there again. He talked to me first, said not to speak as it would be uncomfortable for a while. Asked me if I was okay ( I nodded yes) said my mom was here if I wanted her and then she moved closer into the room. No panic, frenzy, nothing. They gave me a push pop and then from then on during healing I remember getting ice cream, & popsicles for Lunch/ dinner while my siblings had mac & cheese with hot dogs.💀 as long as you are involved in the process, I’m sure your son will feel best in your comfort.

My son had his removed at 4 and I had them removed at 5. The only thing I can recommend is to stock up on ice cream lol. Neither one of us was dealing with much pain. It was just like a sore throat.
The surgery was super quick and unproblematic but they gave my son a breathing mask and it took forever for him to wake up

My 2 year old just had hers out and it was pretty rough for about 10 days..Just make sure you have plenty of Tylenol and Motrin to alternate. We found that if we only gave one and waited the full 6 hours to give the other she was in agony so we would give Motrin then 3 hours later give Tylenol and keep alternating the two every 3 hours. My daughter does not do pain very well and every child is different but it has been worth it with her sleep improving. She has however started to have night terrors and I read that it can be normal after anesthesia so I’m hoping that improves in the next few months. Milkshakes, pasta, popsicles, yogurt, soups, spaghetti Os were what she pretty much lived on for two weeks. Goodluck Momma I was a nervous wreck so I know what you’re going through and it will all be worth it!

Follow the Drs aftercare orders precisely. 
Keep watch for the symptoms they say to watch for and advise them if your kiddo is not feeling well prior to the surgery.
