Trying to learn to sit. If i put her in the position she will stay in it for a while, but i think its bc she cant get out of it on her own. Anyone else's baby not able to get into position or out on their own? She will be 6 months on the 19th!

Same here. With my first, I would put her in the sitting position so she would learn how to hold herself up. Eventually she learned. I am doing the same thing with this one. Don't worry too much about it, they will get there :)

Yes this is the average developmental progression. 👍🏼
They’ll use their arms in front as a kickstand, then be able to not topple sideways as often, not falling backward is typically the last stage of it.
Putting themselves into a sitting position comes typically with crawling. 
There are variances, of course.
Mine will sit up for quite a while and then his body “nope’s” it and he just falls backwards lol so I still spot him and keep the harder toys away.
