When would you go to the doctor over back pain?

I get kinda hateful answers sometimes :( so I just want to say- I know you all are not doctors. I’m just wondering what you would do.

I’ve been putting it off for months because I went once, and all my doctor did was do an X-ray and give me ibuprofen. Which didn’t help. And she said there was nothing showing on the xrays and left it at that. So, I feel like going back, I’d get the same answer from her. Although a friend said she might do an MRI if it’s still bothering me. My back pain is gradually getting worse and spreading to the lower part of my ribs in my back.

And laying down in the bed doesn’t help anymore.
