Getting married at a courthouse and having wedding ceremony next year?

My boyfriend and I want to get married this year but a lot is going on. I'm due with our first child in a few weeks and we still have a lot of bills to pay off. Would getting married at a courthouse now and having the wedding ceremony next year (probably january) be a good idea??? Or should we just get married at our ceremony??? Super conflicted

My husband and I eloped. Told absolutely no one...hiked into the mountains and married ourselves with no witness. In Colorado, you can self-solemnize...or marry without a witness. 10 months later we had a traditional ceremony with our friends and family. We wanted our legal marriage to be extremely personal and intimate...but we also wanted a cake, decorations, food and all the fun wedding stuff as well. It was fun to marry him twice! 🥰

I would either get married at the courthouse and just have a big party later or get married at the ceremony. It seems weird to me to do courthouse and then a ceremony.

Get married at a courthouse and be done. A marriage is more important than a huge wedding. Obviously if it's what you want, go for it! But not necessary.

My cousin wanted to do that. I considered it too. But she never ended up having a ceremony and reception. She said it’s very easy to forget and push it back. So for that reason, I don’t think I’m going to do that. I can see myself doing the same.
