Toddler does not eat (for me). Please send help or at least reassurance 😩

Heather • Maggie’s mom

My 20 mo old is very smart, and awesome in most ways. She’s a great sleeper, and has been for many months (knock on wood), she doesn’t throw many tantrums, she’s social and fun, and pretty much amazing. Except for one thing- she doesn’t eat for me. I work full time so she goes to a babysitter full-time. Her babysitter says she eats well for her; breakfast, lunch and a snack. Then she comes home and eats almost nothing for me for dinner. 1-2 bites of her main course and some bites of fruit. This has been going on for MONTHS! And I am pretty much at my wits end.

Here is a list of foods I can count on my daughter to eat regularly:

Popcorn shrimp

Kraft spiral mac n cheese

Watermelon

That’s it’s.

Everything else is hit or miss, mostly miss. The list of foods she used to eat is much longer. She will of course eat whatever junk food you offer her, but I don’t offer it to her that often.

I’m trying very hard to not produce a picky eater, so I don’t give her any other food if she doesn’t eat her dinner, because I’ve read that they will eventually get it that this is what’s for dinner so this is what they need to eat. Sometimes, if she really eats nothing, I will give her some yogurt. But even that she will only take a few sips of.

Could someone please give me either A) any tips and/or B) reassurance that this strategy will eventually work and she will learn to be a better eater. Please- I am so frustrated! I’m also concerned she won’t be gaining enough weight and growing!
