Definition of Single Mother?

Question

I’m confused on the definition. For instance my sister has 3 children by 3 different men. 2 of the kids fathers are active. However, she got married a few years ago and still call herself a single mom. Does the stepdad not count? Other than her I see a number of women saying they are single mothers but have the help of the biological father or current bf/husband. Wouldn’t that mean you are not doing this alone? I’m not judging anyone. I’m just curious as to what women consider themselves when it comes to this topic and why.

To me a single mother is a mom who is single and taking care of her kids in a single parent home. Even if the father is involved certain days out of the week she is still a single mother. On her days she's doing it all on her own.

Someone explained it like this once, and it made a lot of sense. If you have the support/help of the child’s father but are not with him, you are a single woman, not a single mother. 
So to me a single mother is one who is solely supporting and raising her children. And anyone who is married is not a single parent to me.

My definition, is a mother who has zero help from the father.

She is now married so she is no longer a single mom. However, prior to being in a relationship she was a single mom even if the dad was involved in the child's life. She was still doing everything for that child as a single parent household when that child was with her. The active dad is also a single dad as long as he has some custody and not in a relationship.

A single mother is one who takes care of the children on a day to day basis with no one living with them to share the burden.
I was a single mother when I split from my ex and I had custody of my children. He would pay child support and have them one day a week but the primary care giving was on me - even if the children were with him and they became sick he would call me to collect them or whatever.
When I got into a relationship.with my new husband and he moved in etc and started to help with the children I was no longer a single parent, because the day to day stuff was shared.
If you're living with someone, married or not, and they have an active role in the day to day care of the child's lives then you are not a single parent.
If you are not living with the child's father or anyone else and they are providing financial support but the children mainly live with you then you are a single mother.
If you have children with another man, get into a new relationship and they don't live with you and don't provide daily care for the child then you are a single mother.
If you have children with another man, get into a new relationship and they move in with you and provide daily care for the child you are not a single mother.

My personal feelings is if you're unmarried (if you're married then I would count the step parent as a parent) or if you have full custody of a child and the other parent doesnt have the child part time, even if they are giving child support I would still say the other parent is a single parent if they have full custody.

She’s not a single mom. A single mom is SINGLE. Duh. My dad isn’t with my mom & he didn’t call himself a single dad (I’m an adult now obviously) anyway he didn’t say it cause he wasn’t single he was married. Never in my life have I heard him say he was a single dad. My mom hasn’t been married & has 5 kids by 4 different dads & does call herself a single mom cause she IS SINGLE. Not married, SINGLE
