The next day she was in the ICU

I was with my grandma the night before at the nursing home and she was fine. Next day she was in the ICU.

My cousin was there that morning, and she had been throwing up blood. She hadn’t peed all morning. She tried, but she got stuck on the toilet for a long time because she’s in so much pain. (She got stuck on the toilet before my cousin arrived) She’s also a fall risk so she shouldn’t be getting up alone but nobody would come and she felt like she had to pee. My cousin had called the nurses in and told them she was in pain and they just gave her a Tylenol. I get there, I call my aunt who calls her doctor and gets doctors orders to send an ambulance to transport her to the hospital. Because my grandma was puking up blood, in so much pain she was just groaning and hadn’t peed and was yellow (she has jaundice) she was coughing up/throwing up that blood every 5-10 Minutes

The nurse came in and said “well we HAD doctors orders but your family got involved so I guess now there’s an ambulance on the way.” In a nasty tone?

Like okay?

And then when EMS arrived, she tells them “she’s been fine and only threw up once. Other than that the doctor ordered blood work but then her family called her doctor and now she’s going to the hospital.” -also failed to mention that it was BLOOD she puked up.

The EMS workers were even looking in her puke bucket, and said “that looks like more ‘than once..’ how many times has she thrown up?” And noted that it was freaking blood in the bucket. So I told them, told them that We had been in her room with her watching her so we know. We told them that she was in pain, she told them too. The EMS workers were way more caring and diligent. Then while they were strapping her in, the nurse stood at the door way staring at me like I was fucking stupid.

Then we left.

The nursing home never called my family to tell us that she was so sick. If we weren’t visiting her all the time she could have died.

Now my grandmother is in the ICU today internally bleeding, (that’s why she was throwing up blood) has liver failure and they’re trying to find out where the bleed is coming from.

This is the only nurse that was a complete jerk, every other nurse was very sweet and I felt like she was being taken care of well until the last day. I had never met her before.

My mom is filing a complaint with the state and hiring a lawyer. I just don’t understand this nurses attitude and I’m going back today and if she’s there I’m going to point her out to her boss and explain that my grandma is now in the ICU. I went last night to get all of her medication, but they called today and said that they didn’t give it all to me so I have to go back.
