Bf doesn’t message/call first

My bf doesn’t message or call me first, in fact he can prob go a couple days without talking to me. I’ve confronted him about it and he says “me or you call first, it’s the same thing, doesn’t really matter.” But sometimes i wanna be messaged first and not have to do it first EVERY SINGLE TIME. It’s frustrating at times. Any advice ? Does anyone else experience or has experienced the same thing ?
